GROUND RULES FOR MEETING CONDUCT


1. Come to the meeting with a positive attitude.
2. Treat members with respect both, during Chapter and Committee meetings and outside of the meetings.
3. Be prompt in arriving at the meeting.
4. Turn cell phones off or to vibrate.
5. If you must take urgent calls on the cell phone, take your conversation away from the meeting floor and out of hearing of meeting members.
6. Positively present yourself.
7. Talk one at a time, waiting to be recognized by the President, or whoever is presiding over the meeting.
8. Abstain from side conversations.
9. Be patient when listening to others speak and do not interrupt them.
10. Members need to stay on the topic of discussion.
11. Always address the issue on the floor. Do not direct your disagreement to the member who raised the problem, or if you do not agree with the member's position.
12. A member shall not speak twice on a topic until each member has spoken once on the matter.
13. When a topic or agenda item has been thoroughly discussed, please do not bring the same subject back up.
14. Don't address personal issues during the meeting, except when it is about the question being considered by a Committee or by the general membership. Member announcements are allowed in Announcements - Other - Business item in the agenda.
15. Don't make threats or rude comments to members.
16. Address any concerns about the discussion or the meeting with the President, or whoever is presiding over the meeting. It is the presiding officer’s job to bring them to order.
17. Be respectful of other member’s ideas.
18. A member in violation of any of these rules, having been warned by the provost for the second time, shall be fined $5.00 payable immediately to the treasurer. If a member persists in defying the rules, the fine shall be increased by $1.00 for each time the provost or president warns the
